We know keeping up with every legislative change can feel impossible, which is why we’ve created this post.
We also want to support you with every recommendation straight from the heart of the European Union, especially when it concerns both you and us. So, if you have the time, interest, and most importantly, the desire to stay informed, check out what we have to share here. You can also find the European Parliament and Council Directive 2022/2555 (NIS 2)right HERE. Based on this directive, new cybersecurity laws are expected to come into effect in our country in early 2025.
With this in mind, we’ll briefly outline what’s behind the "NIS 2" codename and what steps both we and you are required to take.
The directive explicitly imposes obligations on domain registrars (like us, NASK, and any other company selling domains in the EU). This obligation ensures that only domains registered with accurate personal or business data are allowed.
Domain subscriber data must be complete, accurate, and kept up-to-date. Therefore, we’ll be paying closer attention to your data. From now on, we’re prioritizing top-quality standards.
Under the upcoming regulations, WEBD.pl will implement specific procedures to verify the accuracy of domain subscriber data. We’ll review both newly registered domains and those already in your possession. Among other actions, we’ll: check for language errors and typos in the data, verify postal codes, request confirmation of contact information such as email addresses and phone numbers.
We understand that some of you have owned domains for over a decade, and over time, your address or contact details may have changed multiple times. That’s why we’re urging you to:
1. When registering a new domain, ensure your subscriber data is accurate.
2. If you already own a domain, confirm that the data you’ve provided us is still current. You can do this in the client panel under the “My Services” tab in the dropdown menu next to your domain.
3. If you’re creating websites and purchasing domains on behalf of your clients, do the same—check their data in the client panel.
Important reminder: the domain subscriber’s data is not the same as the account owner’s data on WEBD.pl. Check the data for each domain separately, as they may differ.
Let’s get organized now, as the new regulations will give us a strictly limited time for these checks once they take effect.
You might ask, "What happens if the data isn’t confirmed as accurate?" In that case, the domain will have to be blocked—for displaying and for operations like transfers or DNS changes.
Why all this effort?
The internet is increasingly being compared to a dog off its leash, and actions like these aim to not only rein it in but also curb the activities of those using the web for fraud or scams. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Stay tuned for further updates from us!
