We’re hearing more and more about online security, but today we’ll talk about changes that will directly affect how SSL certificates work – the basic protection of every website. This is important information, so if you use a certificate (you have the “green padlock” in your browser), this post is for you.
🔐 Why is the validity period of certificates changing?
In short – it’s about greater internet security.
The shorter a certificate key is valid, the lower the risk that someone will use an old, compromised key or that the data in the certificate will become outdated. That’s a good thing, but… it also means certificates will require more frequent renewal (reissue), even if the subscription is annual. We see that you sometimes have questions related to certificate validation, and we know perfectly well that doing this more than once a year could make your head spin – so we have a solution! But first things first…
📅 Change schedule
Here are the planned stages of the changes:
March 15, 2026 – after this date, every newly purchased certificate will be issued with a key valid for 200 days. Before those 200 days expire, a certificate reissue will be required, which will result in a new key valid for another 165 days. All of this will happen within a single annual subscription.
March 2027 – after this date, the key validity period will be shortened even further to 100 days.
March 2029 – the key will be valid for only 47 days.
As you can see, this means that in the future, within a single SSL subscription purchased and paid for a year in advance, the key will be renewed multiple times.
🔄 What does this mean for you?
If you install the certificate yourself on hosting or a server NOT purchased from WEBD.PL, you will need to:
✔️ download the new key yourself,
✔️ install it yourself,
✔️ verify that it works yourself.
With shorter validity periods, this may be quite a lot of work, especially if you have several domains and websites. For those who have hosting with WEBD.pl, we offer conveniences – so you don’t have to remember about it. We want you to focus on running your website – and make the certification process as hassle-free as possible. That’s why we are preparing several improvements.

We are working on full automation of certificate validation, issuance, and installation wherever technically possible. Thanks to this:
➡️ you won’t have to manually order a new key – we’ll do it for you
➡️ you won’t have to manually install a new key after each reissue – we’ll do it for you
➡️ the process will take place in the background, and your websites will remain secure.
This is especially important in the context of the changes that are approaching us quickly. So, to leave no doubt – for those of you whose websites point to WEBD.pl hosting (even if only via an A record), key replacements and validity date updates will take place in the background, without the need for any action on your part 🙂
📆 Longer-term certificate at WEBD.pl
We also plan to introduce the option to purchase a certificate not only for one year, but for a longer period. Although the keys will be renewed more frequently, you will:
✔️ pay for the service upfront for several years,
✔️ not have to remember about frequent renewals,
✔️ enjoy uninterrupted operation.
📧 What if you install the certificate outside of WEBD.pl?
We understand that some of you may install certificates on servers or services outside our infrastructure. In that case, we will ensure that we:
send automatic email reminders about the need to install a new key,
provide the option to download the new key directly from the client panel.
It’s a simple and practical solution – so nothing catches you by surprise.
