Restoring a Backup in cPanel – a New Version of the Feature

30 September, 2026 | by B.Grabarczyk

A backup is a bit like a lifebuoy – we hope we’ll never need it, but when something goes wrong, it’s good to have one within reach. Even better when you don’t have to wait for help and can restore your data to an earlier state yourself.

At WEBD.pl, the backup restoration feature isn’t entirely new – you’ve already been using it. Now, however, we’re putting it in your hands in a completely new, more advanced version.

Its most important feature is **independence**. From cPanel, you can choose what you want to restore, which date to restore it from, and decide on additional options for the entire process.

And most importantly – there’s no need to contact support and wait for someone to do it for you.

This is currently the first and only solution of its kind on the market that gives users such a direct way to independently carry out the backup restoration process.

Sounds complicated? Don’t worry – the entire process has been divided into a few simple steps.

💾 Where do we start?

After selecting the “Restore backup” option in cPanel, the restoration menu will appear. This is where you choose what you want to recover.

And it’s not limited to restoring the entire website. You can decide which type of data you want to restore:

🌐 website files – the files stored on your hosting account that make up your website,

🗄️ database – the data stored in the database used by WordPress or another application,

📧 mail – data associated with your email accounts.

Important: within a single process, you can only restore a backup from one category. This means that if you select website files, you won’t be able to select a database or mail backup at the same time.

Once a backup from one category is selected, the remaining categories will be locked.

This makes the entire process clearer and reduces the risk of accidentally restoring the wrong data.

📅 Choosing a date

Once you know what you want to restore, it’s time to choose when you want to restore it from.

You select a specific backup date from which the data should be restored.

This is particularly useful when you know that a problem appeared, for example, after the latest update, configuration change or website modification and you want to return to an earlier, working version.

🛠️ Additional options – before we click “Restore”

The next step includes special options that may be useful in specific situations.

1. Creating a ZIP archive

Not sure whether restoring the backup is a good idea? You can first create an additional safety copy – in other words, make a backup before the backup. 😉

After selecting this option, the current data will be saved as a ZIP archive in the user’s home directory, inside the `backup_restore` folder.

This is a good solution if you want to be able to return to the current state in case the restoration doesn’t produce the expected result.

2. Clearing the directory before restoration

This option can be particularly useful when you are restoring data because of an infection on your hosting account or when you want to roll back a larger set of changes.

Before the restoration begins, the directory will be cleared, so old files won’t remain alongside the files restored from the backup.

⚙️ Advanced options

If you need more control, there is also an expandable “Advanced options” section.

Here you’ll find the option to force file permission correction.

This option is worth using if a previous restoration ended with a warning or failure.

▶️ The restoration begins

Once all settings have been selected, the actual restoration process begins.

A window will appear where you can monitor what is happening on your account in real time. Once the restoration starts, you’ll also see a progress bar and information about the files currently being restored.

And here’s the good news: you don’t have to sit in front of your computer watching the progress bar slowly move to the right. 😉

You can close your browser window – the entire process will continue running in the background.

📋 Restoration complete – what’s next?

Once the process is complete, you’ll receive information about whether the restoration was successful.

And if you want to check exactly what happened during the entire operation, you don’t have to rely solely on a “done” message.

A full restoration log is saved in the user’s home directory, inside the `logs` folder.

This allows you to check the details of the operation and verify that everything went according to plan.

🙌 Most importantly: you don’t have to wait for support

And this is where the biggest change lies.

The backup restoration feature was already available before – now, however, you’re getting a new version designed to give you even greater independence and control.

You decide:

✔️ what you want to restore – website files, database or mail,

✔️ which date you want to restore the data from,

✔️ whether you want to create an additional archive before restoration,

✔️ whether the directory should be cleared,

✔️ whether you need to use the advanced options.

No need to submit a ticket.
No need to describe the problem.
No need to wait for a response.
No need to arrange anything with an administrator.

A few clicks in cPanel and you can start the entire process yourself.

🔐 A backup isn’t just a copy. It’s the ability to quickly get your website back online.

Having a backup is, of course, very important. But it’s equally important to be able to use it when needed without waiting for someone else’s help.

That’s why we’re developing the solution you already know and giving you even more control over the restoration process.

The new version of the “Restore backup” feature is, above all, about **independence**.

And if your website ever suddenly starts living a life of its own, it’s good to know that the “Restore backup” button is exactly where you need it. 😉
